Government
Italy is a Unitary State, Constitutional Republic, Parliamentary Republic, and Republic. Essentially, Italy is lead by a president who appoints a prime minister. The president's job is to represent the country and it's unity with each other. They are elected every seven years and are elected by the chamber of the parliament and three representatives from each region of Italy. The minimum age of becoming president is fifty. Some of the presidents duties include enforcing laws, authorizing bills, and directing the armed forces. The current president is Sergio Mattarella.
Parliament consists of the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies. They have equal power. Bills go through parliament first before they go to the president. Italy also has many political parties - the Democratic party, the Five Star Movement, the Forward Italy, the New Center-Right, the Left Ecology Freedom, and the Northern League. Citizens over the age of eighteen can vote.
